Crazy Fall Running!

This weekend started my crazy fall running.  I just ran in my 9th Hood to Coast as a member of the Fabulous Fifties Over Sixties team.  We compete in the Super Masters division - everyone must be over 50.  This year 5th of 7 teams in the division.  The weather was crazy - about 82F for my first leg (#11) on Friday.  By the time I ran my second leg (#23) around 2:30AM on Saturday it was windy, rainy and a thunder storm started.  For my third leg (#35) on Saturday morning about noon, I had a headwind of between 5MPH and 30MPH and 7 miles of uphill run!

Next weekend Dan Hansen and I will be running in the Freakin' Fast Marathon in Boise.   The course starts at the Bogus Basin Ski area and goes down Bogus Basin Road dropping 4000 feet in 20 miles followed by a gentle downhill into the finish.  We are doing this mostly as a training run for the Marine Corps Marathon on October 25th - the concluding event for the crazy fall running!

Training continuing to go well.  Though I'd mention Running Ahead - www.runningahead.com - the online logging site I prefer.

Here is my run this morning:

It was a beautiful morning this morning.  If you are a morning runner you should give it a try.

Fall Marathon Training Begins

Yes, it is that time of year - especially if you have a crazy set of plans for fall running.

I normally use an 18 month training plan for a marathon - but this time I've put together a 20 week plan because my buddy Dan and I are squeezing in a little craziness before we run the Marine Corps Marathon on October 25th.

First bit of crazy is Hood-to-Coast at the end of August.  We are on the Fabulous Fifties Over Sixties a Hood to Coast legacy team.  This will be my 9th year on the team - can't miss that event.  Then, one week later on September 5th we're running the Freakin Fast Marathon in Boise.  Drops 4000 feet from Bogus Basin to the valley (20 miles) and then 6 on the flat.  Finally, on October 25th, the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, DC.

Hood to Coast and the Freakin Fast Marathon are squeezed into the middle of the training plan - thus the 18 weeks.

Off to a good start with first two days of training complete!

I've decided to revive "Running with Ron".  It has been quite a while since I posted.  This fall my running buddy Dan and I have an ambitious set of plans.  We're both on a Hood to Coast team, the Fabulous Fifties, that we will run on at the end of August.  One week later on September 5th we've signed up for the Freakin Fast Marathon in Boise, Idaho.  This race starts at Bogus Basin with the first 20 miles downhill.  It is ranked as one of the fastest marathons in the United States.

The, on October 25th, we will be running in the Marine Corps Marathon.  This will be my 8th marathon and 6th state in the United States.

Training starts tomorrow, June 8th.  I've laid out a 20 week training program based on the Hansons Marathon Method

It's been quite a while since I posted here.  Big news this year - I finally qualified for the Boston Marathon.  I'll be starting my training program in mid-December.  I'll post updates on how it is going.
